Question by Concrete Cowboy: why does car surround sound systems sound better then home systems? cars have better bass and their more-?
“tight” sounding. The soundstage to me is more controlled in a car.Why can’t home system sound like that? That’s the reason I want to use a stereo system in my home instead of a surround sound system.

If you do it right your home system should sound a lot better than the car..you need to find out what needs to be done as far as sound reenforcement and control of reflected sounds; standing waves and other anomalies that deteriorate the sound.. placement of the speakers can make a huge difference.. placement of furniture; wall treatments and of course the quality of speakers you use and how you set up the surround modes…In a car you are limited to where you can place speakers also the noise of motion is also a deterrent that you don’t have to deal with in the home…You just need to do more research into what is going to produce good sound for you, and then go about doing it.
