Car stereo system, I want something that's decent.?

I want to have a decent stereo system. I want to put some sub in the trunk, and im not looking for any major bass or anything, but how many watt sub do i need in order for people outside the car to feel a bit of the bass? Also, my sound quality is sounding REALLY crappy. I was wondering what things i need to change ( speakers, cd player, etc?) And anyone know how much it’ll run ?
