I have two Infinity 12" Subs. The Subs are mounted in a sealed box (i.e. not ported) They are wired in parallel and I have a Sony XPLOD Amp 600 Watts rms MAX. I am not running it bridged. Each sub is connected to its own channel on the amp. Each sub is rated at 300 Watts rms, and each sub individually is 4 ohms. Do I need to use a ported box (i.e. one that has holes) for my vehicle? I have a Ford Explorer 4 door. The subs hit really hard and they sound GREAT on most rap songs, but when I try to listen to faster beat songs/music like techno/dance, or fast rock like disturbed or nickleback, AC/DC, etc…The Sound is not what I expect, I want them to hit HARD, not just give me the vibration of the song. For example the Song More Human than a Human by white zombie, the intro leads up to the bass hitting really hard on a good system (i.e. like my friends system; he has the same system but a car with a trunk.), it should hit really hard on my system but it doesn’t hit hard it sounds more like the subs are struggling. I know nothing is physically wrong with the subs or the amp, I have had them checked out by the installers they said a ported box wouldn’t help. When I switch back to a rap song the subs hit hard and sound great.
Also I have the option on my head unit to set the "AMP GAIN" Should I set this to high or low? If I set it Low it restricts the volume to 30, if I set it high the volume maxes at 50? I am beginning to think I wasted money on two 12’s and maybe should have opted for tubes instead. Is there a way to make this arrangement sound great on all types of music.
